Setting- Mood
The mood during the Cuban Missile Crisis had a lot of tension going around in America because Americans didn't know if a bomb could hit them at any time. So that made a lot of tension in the area. The other part of my story was filled with triumph because Fidel Castro and Nikita Khrushchev were threatening to bomb America. That made those two characters filled with triumph. But in the end they were far from triumph and had their weapons disabled so that they could not be shot. Another mood in my story was probably fear. Fear that maybe a bomb will hit their house when they are asleep. Fear that family and friends would die from a terrible bomb. Fear that all hope would be lost in America. This fear came from the citizens of America. The tree moods that were talked about were probably the main moods but there were probably all lot of other moods going around during the Cuban Missile Crisis as well. But those were the main moods of my story.

Setting-Geography

My entire story takes place in 1962 for 14 days in October. The beginning of my story takes place in a little town in Cuba named Habana. Fidel Castro lived in Habana. Cuba is the largest island in the west indies. It is just west of Haiti and the Dominican Republic. It is also 90 miles from the Key West in Florida. Cuba also includes other small islands, cays, and islets. The capital of Cuba is Havana. The Official language is Spanish and about 11.2 million people live on the extraordinary island. The climate is subtropical and the climate in the summer is about 25 degrees Celsius and and is in the winter its about 22 degrees Celsius. Cuba is the place where Fidel Castro and Nikita Khrushchev made the plan to bomb America but were defeated by John F. Kennedy's threat to declare nuclear war. Nikita Khrushchev chose Cuba because Cuba was very very close to America and was pretty easy to bomb if you had the right equipment and they had the right equipment so American citizens were biting their finger nails because Nikita Khrushchev and Fidel Castro had the ability to bomb America at any time.
Then for the other parts of my story it took place it Washington DC, America. That is where John F. Kennedy figured out what to do to solve this problem so that millions of Americana's wouldn't die from a horrible bomb. Washington DC is the capital in America. Washington flourished into a city after the Revolutionary war. Washing DC was named after George Washington and Christopher Columbus. The whole state is about 70 square miles. There are over 570000 citizens in Washington DC. There is about 7 square miles of water in Washington DC. So Washington is a pretty amazing place. John F. Kennedy couldn't really pick his place but he was already in Washington so why not stay there

John F. Kennedy was born in Brookline, Massachusetts. He was born on May 29, 1917. He was a graduate in Harvard in 1940 and then later joined the Navy. In 1943 his ship got sunk by a Japanese destroyer. He than led the survivors to safety despite his injuries. After war he became a Congressman for Boston. He later married Jacqueline Bouvier on September 12, 1953. A couple of years later Kennedy and his wife had 4 children but unfortunately only 2 survived. In 1956 Kennedy nearly won a Democratic nomination for Vice President. Four years later he was then a first ballot nominee. Kennedy then became the first Roman Catholic president. In 1962 the Cuban Missile Crisis started. At the time the Cold War was also going on. Russia went to Cuba and installed nuclear bombs to try and hit the USA because if they tried to hit us from Russia then it obviously wouldn’t make it. The conflict was originally between the Soviet Union and America but when the Soviet Union moved to Cuba to try and fire at America it became the Cuban Missile Crisis When John F. Kennedy sent spy’s to the Soviet Union and when the spy’s figured out that the Soviet Union was sending nuclear bombs to Cuba to fire at America they sent notice to John F. Kennedy and then John F. Kennedy sent spy’s to Cuba to see what they were planning on doing to attack America. They figured out that the Soviet Union was planning on shooting missiles at America. In the end it they agreed to disarm their weapons because America said if they didn’t than they would declare war and the Soviet Union didn’t want that. The whole Cuban Missile Crisis lasted no longer than 13 nerve wrecking days. John F. Kennedy later died on November 23, 1963.

Fidel Castro was born on August 13, 1926. His father Angel was a wealthy landowner originally from Spain. His mother Lina was a maid to Angel’s first wife. Fidel had 4 other brothers and sisters. He was educated at the Jesuit schools. Castro had a very wealthy circumstance but it was a peasant rebellion was thought to have influenced Fidel’s leaning towards political interests. He later earned a degree from Havana University to offer free legal services to the poor. In 1952 at the age of 25 he ran for Cuban parliament. But, just before the election the government was overthrown by Fulgencio Batista. Fulgencio Batista then established a dictatorship over Cuba. In 1953 Castro was one of the 150 fighters to try and overthrow Fulgencio Batista. While fighting he was placed in jail for landing an attack on a military supporting Batista. Because of that he was famous through out Cuba. In 1955 Castro was released under an amnesty. Fidel than spent time in Mexico to work with his brother. He returned to Cuba on December 2, 1956 by boat. His boat was than sunk and most were killed by the inconvenience. The survivors, including Fidel Castro, fled into the Sierra Maestra Mountains. It was there where the survivors planned an attack against Batista. Then in 1959 they attacked Batista and then Batista fled out of the country. It was then when Fidel Castro became prime minister. The United States of America quickly realized the new Cuban government. But Fidel Castro had a far- reaching idea that he intended to achieve. He then opened new factories and plantations for his far- reaching mission. At the time Fidel became closer and closer to the Soviet Union. On April 16, 1961 Fidel formed a highly skilled bunch of Cuban exiles trained by the CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) and sent them with US weapons to invade at the Bay of Pigs. Then in 1962 Cuba and the Soviet Union joined forces to bomb America. Then Nikita Khrushchev decided to install ballistic bombs in Cuba to bomb America. When U.S. reconnaissance flights revealed ballistic bombs being constructed they sent notice to the White House right away. At the time John F. Kennedy was president and he was obviously not happy about this. So then Kennedy decided to threaten Cuba and the Soviet Union that if they launched one missile that US troops would warrant a full-scale retaliatory attack. After that said Khrushchev’s ships turned back to Russia and Cuba back down and dismantled their weapons. Just as the Crisis begun it ended and Kennedy pledged to never invade Cuba.
Nikita Khrushchev was born April 17, 1894. He was born in Kalinovka, Kursk. Nikita was born as a Ukrainian peasant but than later in his life he joined the Communists party in 1918. He had a close connection with the Soviet leader Joseph Stalin. In 1934 he became part of the Soviet Unions central committee. As 4 decades rose he got higher and higher in the ranks. In 1953 Joseph Stalin Died and so Nikita Khrushchev became the leader of the Soviet Union. When working he reformed Joseph Stalin’s brutal excesses and then later found crimes that Stalin had committed. Khrushchev also tried to become closer to the US by having a tour of it and then later meeting with Dwight Eisenhower himself, the current US president. Then in 1960 a US spy plane shot down a Russian plane. This caught Khrushchev’s attention. It made him very angry. He was so angry that at a United Nations that fall conference he stamped his foot on the table. This astounded the nation. Soon after the incident the Cold War began and it made some big issues appear in the 1960 US presidential contest between Nixon and Kennedy, which Kennedy won. Despite the hate of the US Nikita Khrushchev was forced to back down because of the threat of a nuclear war between Cuba and the United States. This was a short but intense fight. Cuba constructed bombs aiming directly at America threatened to shoot them. When John F. Kennedy found out he enforced that if Khrushchev shot one nuclear bomb at the US that he would declare war. So Cuba didn’t want that so they backed down and dissembled their weapons and the Soviet Union fled from the area back to Russia. As the years went on Nikita Khrushchev weakened in office and then was replaced by Leonid Brezhnev. Then in September 1971 Nikita Khrushchev died. In the Soviet Union he will always be remembered as the leader of the USSR
